Seeking Field Service Engineer or Technician to service our process control customers in the State of Alaska. Applies knowledge of process instrumentation and control, instrumentation applications, and service techniques to ensure reliable control system operation and to achieve customer satisfaction. Activities are performed onsite at customer facilities, requiring frequent travel.
Key Job Elements
Facilitates the start up of new Emerson Delta V Distributed Control Systems (DCSs), Field Instrumentation and Flow Computers at customer sites.
- Conducts site acceptance evaluations.
- Advises customer regarding installation guidelines and standards (power/grounding, network set-up, etc.).
- Oversees (assists with?) system equipment set-up.
- Configures, tests, and de-bugs all components of the DCS as needed.
- Performs control loop checks.
- Configure communication to PLC’s and other 3rdparty system components.
- Calibrates instrumentation to maximize operational efficiency.
- Configure Emerson Remote Operations Controller (ROC) flow computers.
Performs DCS Preventative Maintenance, Troubleshooting, & Engineering Services. Also be capable of troubleshooting Field Instrumentation systems and Flow Computers.
- Installs software & firmware upgrades.
- Takes power/grounding measurements to ensure proper DCS operation.
- Reviews system alarms and alarm history and addresses causes.
- Inspects and cleans DCS components.
- Creates and/or modifies control system configurations and operator interface parameters as needed (adding additional loops, adding/changing graphics, etc.).
- Troubleshoots DCS/PLC bugs and problems.
- Troubleshoot Field Instruments with specific focus on Micro Motion and Rosemount products.
- Responds to and corrects system failures and other DCS/PLC emergencies.
Engages in Consulting & Sales
- Provides technical consultation and recommendations to customer’s management and/or engineers regarding DCS applications, selection, and configurations based on the customer’s specific environment/operations.
- Promotes PCE Pacific DCS/PLC products & services.
- Cross-sells other PCE products and services when possible, referring sales leads to the appropriate PCE Personnel.
- Provides general systems support, guidance, and technical assistance to customer’s engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel as needed. May also conduct formal training sessions from time to time.
Miscellaneous
- Complies with OSHA and customer safety standards and policies.
- Prepares field service reports and supporting documents for billing purposes.
Requirements
- 4-year Engineering degree preferred; 2-year Associate of Science degree acceptable and/or equivalent work experience to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job.
- Recent experience with Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) configuration, field instrumentation installation and troubleshooting, as well as process control experience. Experience with Emerson Process Management and Fisher Rosemount products a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID) and logic descriptions.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, & sales skills to communicate effectively with management, engineering, & maintenance personnel.
- Self-starter, detail-oriented, good organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with general directions.
- Ability to perform considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing, and crouching.
- Frequent travel required, including overnight travel.
- Ability to work overtime and/or be on call if needed.
- Valid Driver's License and own vehicle.
